The Blust girls

We're three sisters from Northern Kentucky who love to create. We know art. We also know life.

At Blustery Day Design, we know that good design is important, but it's not the only important thing. Our families mean the world to us, our knowledge of the world inspires us to be active, and our interactions with each other give us faith in the importance of human connections. We love what we do.

The story

Jessica Yaeger

Jessica YaegerJessica and her husband Jason had their first child, Max, in April 2008, and second son Myles followed in May 2010. They live with their two cats, Leia and Padme, in Highland Heights, Kentucky.

Jess lives with a DIY mentality, from hiking in Yellowstone to working through complex computer coding (and enjoying herself) to figuring out what she can make with some plywood and a can of paint. Jess loves making connections with people and brings an almost annoying amount of enthusiasm to Blustery Day Design meetings. Jess is also a Microsoft Excel wiz, which comes in more handy than you'd think.

Vanessa Tiemeier

Vanessa TiemeierVanessa and her husband Billy live in Delhi, Ohio. She has a different pair of shoes for each day of the month and sports an impeccable sense of fashion, even at family parties. From chic interior design to mad skills with a sewing machine, Vanessa knows how to make things look good.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2007 and a recurrence in February 2010, Vanessa has retained a powerful optimism and a love of creating that shows in her life and in everything she strives for.

Christina Blust

Christina BlustChristina got married to her lovely husband, David Goodier, in October! They live in Terre Haute, Indiana, but are never far from Greater Cincinnati.

After college, Christina had the unique experience of working for a farm and eco-justice center in the fields of Indiana for a year, which only served to strengthen her passion for sustainable design. A singer-songwriter who released a solo CD in October 2009 and is a member of the band Yearbook Committee, Christina has a great love of words, a concern for the global community and an appreciation of all things creative. She also reads everything she can get her hands on, particularly young adult novels, which are awesome.

The story

Blust girlsAs three girls born within a span of three and a half years, we were often seen as a collective unit known simply as “the Blust girls.” We grew up knowing an insatiable sense of creativity and the thrill of the printed item — while other kids were busy tromping through the flower beds or playing video games, we filled our days using shareware desktop publishing programs and our trusty dot matrix to create posters, write stories and publish a sisters' newsletter that hung on the Blust family fridge.

Each of us took a turn as yearbook editor as we cycled through Newport Central Catholic High School, and all three of us ended up studying graphic design in some capacity in college. However, the similarities end there. Though still “the Blust girls” to some, we have each managed to find a splendid diversity of life experiences that, we believe, gives us unique insight into graphic design.
