About the project

Tracy Richardson is an award-winning singer-songwriter, music therapist, and professor of music therapy in Indiana. At the request of her mom, she recorded an album of traditional hymns called The Church in the Wildwood. Tracy needed some top-notch album art for physical and digital distribution of the record, ensuring a professional & appealing presentation of the material.

Project to-do list

  • Design visually appealing album art that entices music lovers to pick up a copy
  • Reflect the old-time rural church spirit of the traditional hymns
  • Incorporate provided photographs & media, including a lovely painting done by her mother
  • Include plenty of room for information about the songs and the project, including song and credit information
  • Output print-ready files for the CD print house, as well as needed digital graphics
Front cover of digipak and the disc itself both show photos of Tracy and attractive type treatment.

Creative direction

Starting from Tracy’s vision for the end product, we found the perfect colors and typefaces to complement the imagery and uplift the old-time, rural church feel.

Digipak layout

Tracy supplied us with some photos and a wonderfully organized document of needed text copy. We distributed this information throughout the four-panel digipak. By utilizing clear hierarchy of information and creative typographical standards, we made sure the final result was understandable and engaging.

We gave careful consideration to each panel of the packaging, including the spine, so the listener’s full experience with the physical album will be a positive one.

The final four-panel layout for the digipak includes front and back cover and internal content.
The final product is printed flat and then folded to accommodate the front and back cover, the spine, and the interior pages.

“I’m so happy. I love the fonts you chose and how you tied the colors all together! … I cannot wait to share the music and beautiful design!
